My Fantasy Land

You might have know this- the tradition of my lab- the b’day gal/ boy wil need to bring in cakes for morning tea. Yes~ you got me right! CAKE’S‘. It’s around 30 plus people in our research group, so CAKE’S‘ are definitely essential!

After a year eating other people’s cakessss, it’s my turn again to bring in mine. Passionfruit Misty and chocolate mud cake~! *yum*

In the morning, I was yelling around:" Cakes at 10.30am~!" And people will yell back "Happy B’day, Yun~!" Oh, our lab manager, Ben actually stopped me for a chat.

Ben: You brought cakes today?
Yun: Yes.
Ben: What time you planning to have cakes?
Yun: 10.30am. Will you be there?
Ben: I’m afraid not. Do you think you guys will be finished by 11am?
Yun: ??
Ben: We will have the evacuation practise at 11am. The alarm will be on at 11am sharp. Just make           sure you guys are done by then.
Yun: o…k…!
Ben: Oh yea, keep it to yourself, dont tell anyone about the practise, cause I want to make it as real        as possible.
Yun: (with smiling face) Alright. I will keep my mouth shut~! (whispered in heart: Damn, why today?)
   

As usual, no b’day song, no present. With *Happy B’day Yun~!* on the white board, you can see me busy cutting the cakes into pieces, while other chit-chating, waiting for their piece. Morning usually very happening, where people have heaps of topics or stories to share.. we eat, and chat..

Cakes finally done~! And alarm "r~i~n~g~~~~~~~~~~!!!" It’s 11am.
"Evacuation practise?"
"Can we clean up the mess afterward?"
"Oh, there’s still a piece of cake left, take it, and ask around on your way~!"
"Damn, can I not going? I’m half-way through my experiment~!"

People moving slowly to the evacuation point. On the way, I was walking with my 3rd supervisor, a 30+ year old "cowboy" in the lab.

Mark: So Yun, you feeling old now?
Yun  : Not when I stand next to you~!
Mark: Oouch~! You got me this time~! But well well well, you know the different between you and               me~!!
Yun  : Oh definitely Mark~! You are knowledgable. Much more smarter than I.
(And I’m saying this from my bottom heart. He is doing post-doc now, but he is just brilliant, and can always see beyond the square, picking a tiny dot and make a whole story out of it. This is what a Scientist suppose to be!)
Mark: See, you know the different. But Yun, I can say, you are growing up, from what I’ve seen you          last year.

Thanks Mark. This is the best present I have for the day.

很平静的一个晚上。我赶着我的lab book，聊着msn，同一时间听着电话。

"Happy Birthday"。Frankie的祝福到了。礼物也到了。哈！１２点了。我２５岁的第一刻。
那是２个“龙猫”(totoro)系列的小可爱：１。钱包，２。钥匙手机颈绳。然后就是个漂亮盒子，里头装着一对蝴蝶－耳环！我喜欢。哦，还有一张满新年气息的生日卡。漂亮！

小姐Celia上网了。吵着要Audio chat. 可是她的mic又不 functioning properly。。所以就一直在专注的研究“为什么”。就在这个同时, housemate Chris敲房门来了，说外头有些东西。大门一开，天！很多的人～！嘻嘻！“疯”友们驾到！你一句“生日快乐”，我一句“谢谢”的，多热闹！

“这是送给你的。我们走了很久才找到这个那么像你的～！”然后我从他们手上拿过那个”很像“我的－猪猪！粉红与白的soft toy～可爱！我爱也！

柏顺给的是很像他的monkey。他的招牌哩！可对我也蛮有意义的啦！因为我肖猴！（ops！有人猜到我的年龄了！）

刚从NZ回来的Kit拉我进房间，说：“NZ没什么好买的，就送你这个啦！”（指着我的桌灯）上面有个小绵羊soft toy的磁铁！超可爱的，粉红色和peach colour！

Housemate Chris这时也冲出来。手上拿着一个盒子，一张卡。粉红色的盒子里装着粉蓝色水晶手链。很晶莹！谢谢哦！

Frankie突然在这个时候冒了一句：“这样子啊，Celia的那份我也现在给你了。说完就转身走了。回来时，手里拿着的是一个蛮大的礼物包包。开了以后，哇！哇！那是”门帘“！挂在房门的帘。是日本韩国风格的。粉红色毛毛心形圆形的东东凑成的。很喜欢～！（很有公主的感觉也！嘻嘻！）谢谢小姐！

花絮：

１。Raymond悠悠的走进房间，蹲在koala soft bear前，摸摸它的头，悠悠的说：”Pak Soon，你为什么那么静啊？“　（柏顺穿着件灰色的冷衣，颜色与koala很像。

２。女生们对家里的那个”兔女郎“hair band很感兴趣。争相戴着它拍照！很性感哦，姐妹们！

３。Shh…别吵！Raymond就快练成他与死物对话的能力了！（他实在是太累了，一直瞪大眼睛，望着死物发呆！）

谢谢大家！窝心也！这个生日因有你们而更显年轻～！

哦，忘了说，整件事情发生时，我穿着粉红色的睡衣！

２４小时后，我生日结束前一刻，Momo给我送来最后一份礼物．自制的相簿．很漂亮！我感动哩！谢谢你的用心与心思～！

你知道吗。。徐志摩曾经说过：“一个人最为难的就是写对自己有分量的人。你怕写太敷衍，辜负了他；你怕写太仔细，描坏了他。。”

我笔下出现过的有我爱的家人，有我很亲的靓靓家族。。写的当下，没有考虑过“敷衍和仔细”的问题。感觉对了，笔尖下的墨汁很自然的就出来了。

这一刻，我想写我的一班“疯”友，这一班我在异地。不。小。心。误。交。的朋友。如果这一次，你在行云流水间感受到了“敷衍和仔细”，请见谅。

YewMeng. 群里的大哥.从没大哥样.木木的,说起笑话却一语惊人!做杀手更是杀人不留痕迹呢！（玩游戏时啦！）哈哈！超爱与他玩UNO的。因为最慢要被罚的，他一定“自告奋勇”！谢谢！嘻！

达芬妮。群里的二姐。厨艺一流，煮的佳肴很有家乡风味（每回吃时都很想家！嘻！）。她很爱书，生活很自律（现在能每天六点就开始一天的年轻人真的不多了！）。最近她迷上了做糕点！幸福的我们！

维妮。群里的三姐。很可爱的一只熊位。圆圆的脸蛋，粉红粉红的,让人很想捏!每回我午后到访他们家时,她都会睡眼朦眬,蹒跚走出房门,手指着我,说:你好吵啊!一听就知道你来了!(然后就是一个嘟嘴)

逾豪。群里的三哥。很像校长的医生（嘻！）。招牌拿手的是烘蛋挞和cheesecake。哦，还有apple cake。每回聚餐时，大家总会提议他负责甜点的！想像一个人，带着医生听筒，左手拿recipe，右手拿壁球羽球拍，脑子里充满音符，心里种着几棵太阳花！那就是－－三哥！

咏洁。群里的四姐。我的msn王后！电脑奇才哦！时常大颠大废的，开心果！虽然只会煎鸡蛋和泡面，但聚餐里却不能没有她的笑声！然后，天！她就是有这种本能让你把羽球场变成游乐场，让你仪态表露无遗！

Raymond. 群里的五哥.超会搞气氛的一位.他厉害的地方是他所谓的搞气氛不是特地的,而是..本能!然后我们只好一直说:Raymond啊,你可以不要说那么多?你死了的啦!(玩游戏时);Raymond啊,为什么每张照片都有你作背景的?Raymond啊…

柏顺.群里的六弟.电脑游戏儿童！电视儿童！超不喜欢拍照，却常被我们抓来拍照．无奈中只能给我们一个非常难看的无表情的脸．如果游戏中一直有人被杀手杀死了，那就一定是这个瓜当医生．因为自私的医生只会救自己的！

Samantha。我们的小妹妹！很像马来人的！或是穿punjabi的Singh？嘻！都不是！她可是漂亮的中英混血儿哦！年纪轻轻却很爱穿得黑黑的一身，说是什么神秘喔！天！甜美的笑容最适合鬼脸的了！哈！

一个聚餐。有的依旧是这班疯友，外加Frankie和Momo.

花絮：

1。快门

每次的聚餐，大家都有自己的角色，也有自己分布的地方。
这一刻如果我按下了快门，你会见到。。
－　晓慧焖着她的南瓜。很用心。
－　Momo努力分开已经被掺乱了的菜茎和菜叶。也很用心。
－　Frankie拿着相机和录影机。悠闲中有点忙碌。
－　柏顺对着鸡蛋发呆。想着用什么来装蒸蛋，想着用什么煲来蒸。
－　Sam躲在房间里，说是与妈妈msn喔！
－　逾豪左手拿着“blender”，右手拿着cheese cream﹐臉很貼近桌上的recipe，很迷茫的说：”份量好像错了，难怪好像太稀。“
－　Raymond捧着吉他，弹着耳熟能详的流行歌曲。他面前放着吉他套，上面有些零钱。
－　维妮陶醉的看着歌词，跟着Raymond的旋律高歌。身体不时摇摆着。
－　YewMeng坐在沙发的扶手，眼睛直视电视，嘴边却哼着吉他的旋律。

2。”失败“的菜肴

                      
某某：哇，今天有咖喱吃！
晓慧：那是南瓜焖江鱼子！

Frankie：（在很近的距离，看着菜肴）这盒东西是什么？
Wawa：那是柏顺的蒸水蛋！

3。新朋友　

吃饱后,当然是游戏时间咯!这回,天!玩的是笨笨的"七级猪".就其实是我们熟悉的"heart attack",外加输了的要被叫成猪.一级一级的叫上去,到第七级时就输了!当大家很认真玩着猪猪时,有一班instruders冲了进来.哈!来了一轮的自我介绍后,我们终于是朋友了!嘻!Nice to meet you guys~!

4。用心的布局

黑黑的饭厅里，有道光慢慢移前，吉他音乐响起，伴着不太一致的歌声，让人动容。
*当生日乐曲奏起时，是一种兴奋，是一种喜悦，更代表着一种成长*
晓慧手上捧着的是逾豪烘的cheesecake。上面有五彩缤纷的蜡烛，还有自制五彩的祝福小旗。我接过载着众多祝福的蛋糕，嘴里只能掏出无数的“谢谢” 。笑容似乎无法离开我的那张脸。

如果我没记错的话，这是我至今一连听最多生日歌的一次。(连泰语的都听了，我该别无所求了吧！)

5。第二份祝福 - 笑场

啊~！原来还有第二个自制的蛋糕也！是可爱的小妹Sam烘的carrot
cake。

晓慧：err。。我想说一样东西很久了,但好像不是很好的.. err..你们,有没有觉得..这个蛋糕很像肉干?
众人 : 哈!很像很像!

我很兴奋得切了第二个生日蛋糕!嘻! * 还演戏,扮说蛋糕很硬,切不下去呢!
Sam : 真得那么硬啊?? (眼睛很大,很紧张)
我    : 没有啦.假假的!哈!

某某:你们觉得吗?其实蛋糕本身的味道真的点像肉干的哩!
Sam : 喂……………………………………………………………………………………!! (跺脚吧)

Frankie 切第二块来吃!
我 : Sam, 你有个忠实支持者也!不用担心了! (Sam 开心笑).
不料,这时Frankie答腔说: 澳洲的肉干很贵呢! (所以多吃一些!)

哈哈!!!

后记:
谢谢你们.这个生日,我忽然觉得自己很年轻!

Lab里，我们闹哄哄的讨论着christmas party的节目。圣诞节在这里是盛大的。在我而言，它却只是“新加坡—乌节路—很多人—漂亮灯饰”。。

圣诞节，如果没有了圣诞老人，还会是个完整的节日吗？

你曾经把红袜子挂在床前，期待着圣诞老人将礼物放在里头吗？
很抱歉，我没有。
忘了。忘了是不相信圣诞老人的存在呢，还是相信圣诞老人的雪橇不可能抵达遥远的马来西亚～

马来西亚太热了，圣诞老人不会喜欢的。

如果圣诞老人一直存在你心里，我会羡慕你的。
相信童话是幸福的。
把握相信童话的年华，因为至少你仍拥有童真的幸福。

这个学期我所demonstrate的course是1st year Biology。总觉得1st year students 比高班的较friendly。也因此我与不少的他们打成一片。

班上有那么一位蛮出众的女生，与３位男生同组做lab. 上课时dissect的蟑螂啊，老鼠啊。。都是由她操刀。同组的男生们还没她一半大胆呢！就这样，我对她印象很深，也常多与他们那组说话（因为他们干事效率实在太快了！）

今天我与big boss Professor有个小型meeting。。就结束时，有位女生敲门而入。是我的那位学生哩！

我心里闪过了一句：哦，big boss也有lecturing 1st year..她是跑来问东西的吧～！

Big boss: Oh, do you know her? She’s troublesome~!
Yun       : Oh yea, she’s in one of my classes~!
Big boss; Is she problematic?
Yun       : Of course not, in fact she’s a smart girl~!

Big boss（笑笑，转向女生）：What can I do for ya?
女生　　：May I have the car key?
Big boss: What’s the plan?
女生　　：We are going home by 5pm.
Big boss: Erm.. shouldn’t be a problem. I can go by 5pm.
女生　　：Good~!

我听着听着。。理着头绪。。

Big boss: She’s my daughter~!

It has been so much fun in our research lab. Apart from working hard, you can always see people joking around, laughing all loud. Recently, the Honours students put the funs together into the "Lab Quote Sheet", recording the classics of people’s saying. I suppose everyone reading my blog know that we are researching on sperm and egg. So, quite a bit of our conversations relevant to "reproduction"!

Here I share part of them with you. Cheers~!

`Shenx (to Aaron who holding a pair of scissors):" What are you going to do with those, I’ve got nothing to chop off!"

`Shenx:" My dad rooted around Europe before rooted my mum!"

`Mark:" I just need to get my ‘probe’ back in action!" (actually talking about the real ‘probe’ used for experiment, yet people interpret it ‘differently’)

`Geoff:" I want to see Chinamen having steamy baths!" (why?)

`Shaun (to Zara who stuffed up the experiment again):" Stop offering me a screw!"

`Sarah (looking on her slide):" It’s probably got sperm on it, ooooo, it feels like a big one!"

`Zelski (seems lost):" What would you like me to do with the sperm now?"

`Jono (to me, walking out the building to get animal):" It’s such a nice day for outing, but we are working like a slave in the lab!" I asked:"Slave? You reckon?" Jono:" Oh yea. But the good looking one!"

`Lisa:" We have a bit of ‘no name action’ here!"

`Lisa:" Haha, that’s why I like a little bit of ‘no name action’!"

`Simone (bored doing preparation before experiment):" I don’t want to do sperm preparation…all I need is leftovers!"

`Sarah (to Dan):" Why don’t you just flop yourself out on the table?"

`Shenx:" I don’t know what I do in my sleep!" Simone:"Don’t worry, I’m sure some day you’ll have someone who can tell you!" Dan:" And I’m sure HE will be lovely!" (Shenx is a guy himself)

`Geoff:" Chris, stop touching My Ball" (It’s a real hand-made paper ball that we play in the lab)

`Sarah (in her dream):" What!!! Carrots are yellow!!!"

`Joel (talking about experiment):" I tried it, but I couldn’t GET IT UP quick enough!"

Research is sort of isolating, where everyone just busy within his/ her own world. This kind of ‘no name action’ does cheer our days up, motivating us all time and surely strenghten our friendship.

Well, guys.. may our research get to the point, and may our eggs and sperm long-lasting~!!
